Columbus Air Force Base is expanding its culinary scene with a new Thai restaurant.
Well, new to the base. Gon Carley, owner of Gon Thai on Main Street, held her soft opening for Gon Thai on the base this week.
Carley said she knew the base was looking to expand its food options and felt it was the perfect opportunity to expand and reach more clientele.
“I’ve been in business for nine years now,” Carley said. “I’m very excited (to open another location). I’m glad to serve all our men and women in uniform.”
Gon Thai on Main Street will maintain its normal business hours while the base location will be open Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The base location’s grand opening will be in the near future. Air Force ladies and gents, be sure to check out Gon Thai on base right next to the commissary.
It looks like Columbus is losing a pawn shop after nearly 30 years of business.
First Columbus Pawn and Gun, 1513 Hwy. 45, first opened in 1992. It will officially close Sept. 15.
According to its Facebook page, First Columbus Pawn and Gun is hosting a retirement sale with daily markdowns. Everything is for sale and everything must go. Be sure to check out the store’s inventory before it’s too late.
Also, the Columbus Lowndes Chamber of Commerce has added a new member.
Cassandra Calmes, owner of Splurge LLC., is the Chamber’s first online boutique retail member. Splurge is an online women’s boutique shop that’s headquartered in Columbus. Though Calmes largely sells merchandise online, Splurge also has portable pop-up shops for various events all over.
“I’ve always been intrigued by different styles and fashions,” Calmes said. “I love the splurge. I love splurging, but I do it on a budget. I wanted to offer something to women so they can treat themselves without breaking the bank.”

Looks like the owner at TASTE got a bite of Starkville and just could not get enough.
Prime 44, 211 S. Jackson St. Suite B., opened Aug. 20. According to the Secretary of State’s office, TASTE owner Michael Fant is the registered agent for Starkville’s new steakhouse. The steakhouse is in the former King’s Craft Butcher shop that closed in April. Judging by Prime 44’s social media, the inside has undergone quite the makeover since Prime 44 took over.
Customers can choose from select USDA prime steaks, soup and salads, seafood appetizers, various cocktails, wines, desserts and more. Be sure to call and make reservations at 44prime.com to try out Starkville’s latest addition to the city’s culinary cuisine.
Prime 44 is open Sunday through Thursday 5-9 p.m. and Friday and Saturdays 5-10 p.m.
Also in Starkville, Jimmy Redd opened his new insurance office this month.
Redd Family Insurance opened on Main Street above the Greater Starkville Development Partnership building. Though his office just opened, Redd said he’s worked remotely from home for the last seven years helping clients find affordable insurance coverage.

Businesses are moving in Starkville.
Right Track Medical Group, a counseling and therapy clinic, has moved from its Starr Avenue location.
Check out Right Track Medical Group’s new location at 200 Hwy. 12., formerly the Giggleswick building. The Starkville office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Bidders get ready, because Legacy Auction held its ribbon cutting in West Point this week.
Fred and Kimberly Chase opened a live auction space in the Mossy Oak Outlet at 5767 Hwy. 45 S. Legacy Auction will have its grand opening and first auction Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Also, in West Point a cell phone repair shop has held its grand re-opening.
Gator’s Cell Phone and PC Repair, 6195 Hwy. 45, reopened at its new location. The cell phone and computer repair shop is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
